The Seniors Section operates as an independent group within Burgham Park Golf Club, with the agreement of the owner, and in addition to the following arrangements the members of the Section are expected to abide by the Rules and Regulations of Burgham Park Golf Club
Our General Approach
Our aim is to ensure that as many seniors as possible can play friendly competitive golf.
There is no extra membership fee or qualification to join the seniors as long as the player is a Burgham Park Golf Club member and aged 55 or older on the day of competition.
It is our intention that Seniors golf is inclusive of all and that anyone who wants to play can do so. This includes a commitment to working to remove any barriers to playing golf caused by illness or disability as well as trying to overcome other discriminatory attitudes that may discourage people from joining in.
Discrimination on any grounds is unacceptable.
Anyone needing help in accessing the competition program should contact the Seniors Competition Secretary or any other member of the Seniors Committee who will be glad to help.
We provide a comprehensive and varied programme each year which aims to reflect members preferences whilst conforming with the general practices of the club. There is a consultation with members towards the end of the summer season and the programme is presented to the AGM.
Voluntary efforts are always appreciated.
Our Purpose
Our sole function is developing and managing a full programme of competitions for senior men to participate, these may be :-
Regular fixtures at the club – currently held on Monday and Wednesday mornings
Friendly fixtures (home and away) with nearby clubs
League Matches under the auspices of the North Northumberland Seniors League or similar
Occasional group visits to other clubs (Awaydays etc)
The Section raises income from a percentage of competition entry fees, surpluses from Open Competitions, Invitation Day, raffles etc.
Other than occasional small donations to charity, making minor contributions to course improvements and an annual gratuity to the greenkeepers, all the funds are spent for the direct benefit of members either in prize money and trophies, subsidies for awaydays, annual events, subsidised badged clothing etc;.
The Section is managed by a Committee that is elected each year at the Annual General Meeting (AGM) which is held in the first quarter of the year (1st Jan-31st Mar). A list of committee members is on the who is who menu (above) their duties are listed on the the committee menu button
