With the last Trophy Competition over, a stunning win in the Charity Pairs by Tim Bellamy and Bill Cole, chased home by Tony Garrity and Raymond Murphy leaves everyone looking forward to the winter. If the almost universal high scoring in todays 4BBB is anything to go by the winter will be an almighty tussle.

With the new Jack Frost Token events and the experiment with a winter league, as well as some more unorthodox team events there should be plenty of excitement to look forward to.

Results of individual events and a winter league table as well as the winter order of merit will all be available on the Seniors Website starting soon.

Having earned his place in this year’s Victor Ludorum competition by winning the Bogey Trophy Tony Clarkson has gone on to win the final Trophy of the season – the big one – he is crowned Victor Ludorum 2020.

Finishing two strokes better than second placed Doug Lyons who scored a similar margin over third placed Alan Carr. Given the conditions in which this was played scoring was solid throughout.

On the same day the Seniors Stableford was won by new (to the Seniors) Chris Berriman who on 40 points was two clear of Derek Harrison and John Beynon

Today’s storming win by Tony Clarkson, chased hard by Colin Sanders gives him the Trophy, propels him into the fifth spot in the Order of Merit and qualifies him for a place in the Victor Ludorum next week.

As announced on Monday Brian Johnson hung on to his 14 point lead to win the Summer Order of Merit which will now go on his mantlepiece next to the Winter Order of Merit which he won just before “Lockdown” . Nor was anybody able to remove the grasp that Mike Irwin had on second place. John Davies and George Wright absent through injury finished in third and fourth places respectively.

NB Draw for Victor Ludorum takes place at 19:00hrs tonight – to be published on V1 (I hope) tomorrow.

With one round to go Brian Johnson limps over the line and is this years winner, holding both the Summer and Winter O of M simultaneously. Congratulations must go to him as Mr Consistency even though in today’s foul weather he could only manage one point.

Closest contender for second place, Mike Irwin also only managed a singleton with John Davies and George Wright out with injury and most others in the leading group performing badly in the soft going the only significant improvements were from today’s underdressed winner Clive Ross, Dave Harbertson and, wait for it, David Parkin forcing their way into the top ten.

Only John can now beat Mike into second place with George capable of snatching third, all others contesting for crumbs, with at least three others in with a chance of edging your truly out of tenth.

After a gruelling campaign the Matchplay Pairs reached its thrilling climax this morning. With George Wright giving at least five shots to all of his playing companions he and Ray Nutter looked to have their work cut out. And so it proved David Parkin and Alan Johnson went a hole ahead at the fourth and never really looked back. Although the four up with three to play final scoreline flattered them a little the match was tense throughout, the anxiety levels were palpable when on the putting greens. At Dormy five the match looked over but George and Ray fought back up the 14th and George without a shot on the 15th managed a par but it just wasn’t enough to hold the champions back.

A good natured and competitive match saw new names added to the Roll of Honour. The players walked off excited about the golfing prospects for the week ahead which, weather permitting, should see both the Autumn Trophy and the Bogey Trophy decided and the winner of the Order of Merit declared (the latter now has at least one of Brian Johnson’s hand in place. Those results should see the field finalised for the following weeks Victor Ludorum!
