Order of Merit at end September

Its static at the top – no changes in the Top Ten but Brian Johnson consolidates his lead and with a growing gap of 14 points mathematically he cannot be caught before Wednesday 7th October.

Clive Ross’ result today pushes him into the group chasing a top ten place clustered in the 50-55 area of the table.

Tim Bellamy, todays winner hasn’t quite done enough to join this group but has two more chances next week and along with the rest of us one final chance of improvement on the following Monday.

Prize Money Increase

Because it is unlikely that the Christmas Lunch and Prizegiving will take place we have decided that there is no need to retain any of the entry fees for competitions for the time being. Therefore, with immediate effect, and until further notice 100% of the entry fees will go into the prize pot.

Order of Merit 24/9

Brian Johnson’s performance in the Matchplay Championship has pushed him back to the top of the Leader Board with Mike Irwin hanging on in second. A gritty performance in the wet from John Davies has him capturing third place with only 4 points earning fixtures to go! George Wright and Doug Lyons are hanging on in there but is it really all over bar the shouting. with one hundred and eighty points left to play for only a sparkling set of victories will allow anyone else to force himself into this contest.

Just above the 50 point mark a second hotly contested race is on as people vie for a top ten finish.

Strokeplay Championship

This was contested this week after last months weather induced postponement, although the weather was kind to us on Monday, Wednesday’s second round was treated to wind, rain and a marked drop in temperature. The depleted field – down from 44 on day one to 31 – as a result of a variety of doubtless sport related injury, battled bravely against the elements and the results were:-

Strokeplay Champion – Colin Sanders (148 net) also best gross!

Runner Up – Brian Johnson (149)

Doug Lyons (150), Mike Irwin (151) and Ian Harries (152)

Good scores on the second day from John Davies and Tony Garrity were enough to bring them through from lower placings in Round one but not quite enough to trouble the leaders.

Well done Colin and to everyone who survived!

Order of Merit

After yesterdays first leg of the Strokeplay Championship we have a little daylight emerging between Mike Irwin (82pts), Brian Johnson (81pts) and the rest of the field headed by John Davies and George Wright (71 pts). Within the top ten only John Davies made strong progress and you can now throw a blanket over a top four of Brian Johnson, Mike Irwin, John Davies and George Wright – only 4 points in it.
